Personal Branding

Updated: May 23, 2019

Branding on a business-level is common, but today branding is becoming just as important on a personal level. Catch up!

Your personal brand is the perception that people have of you, as compared to other people in similar positions. It should be about other people, specifically what you can

do for other people. What unique thing do you bring to the table?

“Your brand is what people say about you when you’re not in the room.” – Jeff Bezos, Founder of Amazon

In today’s job market and entrepreneurial landscape, there is no room for being another face in the crowd. You have to separate yourself from the competition. You have to be more appealing to your target audience and you can achieve it by creating a recognizable personal brand.

Ways to build Personal Brand

Determine & Prioritize Your Values and Passion

Values are the things that you believe are important in the way you live and work while passion is what drives you. They are at the core of who you are as a person and determine your priorities. Some examples of values include friends, family, honesty, community, ambition, etc. Values and passions help you determine where you want to be in two, five or even twenty-five years, including your ideal career path.

Define Your Key Traits

Traits define your unique personality. You can take a free test to determine yours. The test should give you some insights about how agreeable, extroverted, open-minded, etc. you are and help you cultivate your personal brand.

Develop Your Personal Image

Once you know your values, passions & personality traits, it’s time to start showcasing them!

1. Have professional headshots taken and use them on LinkedIn, in your company profile, etc.

2. Cultivate an email signature that’s unique to you.

3. Build credibility with content. Use LinkedIn, Quora, Wix, or other publishing tools to your message out on topics you are knowledgeable about.

4. Dress the part!

Build your brand until you no longer have to introduce yourself.”
